UK residents (or former residents) what do you think of American accents?

I was watching a couple of youtube videos of Brits attempting American accents, and it got me wondering about its appeal. You see to Americans, an english accent is classy and educated sounding, so I don't really grasp why many UK youtubers seem to like it so much. So tell me UK YA-ers, why do you like American accents? What kind of person do you picture when you hear souther, mid-western, and northern accents respectively. Let me know!
